The pure gold threads are made by cutting thin strips of Japanese paper stamped with pure gold leaves. The gold threads are then twisted in a spiral pattern on a core thread of silk.

The gold threads bundle gives the accessories a luxurious and voluminous feel, but they are unexpectedly soft and light.

The bundle is closed up in a metal part available in 6 colors: gold, silver, black lacquer, white lacquer, banegara lacquer (red), masuka lacquer (blue)

Tabane uses threads from Terashima Yasutaro Shoten, a gold and silver threads factory, founded more than a hundred years ago in Kyoto. Gold and silver threads using pure gold and pure silver have been used for a long time, for noble people’s clothes, as well as in many festivals around Japan, for Noh and Kabuki theatre costumes and Sumo wrestler’s costumes. It is for example used to decorate the curtains of the floats of the Gion Festival.

Gold threads represent honor, prosperity, and nobility. Silver threads represent sincerity, chastity, and protection from evil.
