Tetsubin iron kettle, also known as Nanbutekki, is a traditional Japanese kettle made of iron, iron casting.  It originated in Iwate prefecture of Japan during the 17th century and is still produced today by skilled artisans in the same region. 

Tetsubin, Nanbutekki, is made using a special type of sand mold that allows the cast iron to be shaped with intricate details and patterns. 

Our Tetsubin has been certified as a traditional craft by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan. It is not mass produced. Skilled craftsmen put their hearts into making each one by hand. 

If you use hot water boiled in this Tetsubin to make tea or coffee, you can take trace amount of iron.  If the water you brew is hard, a certain amount of minerals (mainly Calcium) will be adsorbed on the inner walls of the Kettle.  With a Tetsubin, you can drink authentic Japanese green tea anywhere in the world. 

In recent years, the popularity of Tetsubin has spread not only in Japan but also overseas as it has both value as a beautiful craft and its function.
