Nishijin-ori Nagoya Reversible Obi Twin Girls Black & Pink

Modern Obi by designer Ms. Tamao Shigemune. Two girls are staring at us. It makes us think about where they are going and where did they come from. Stars are shining in the sky and clouds are obscuring the moon.

At the feet of the girls, a trompe l’oeil-like heart and a skull with strawberry eyes is smiling suspiciously.

If you wear the obi on the pocket dots side, the skull will be hidden. It is an obi with a secret story.

The obi is designed so different patterns appear depending on how you wear it. You can create your own story depending on with pictures are showing.

The obi was woven by a weaving shop in Nishijin, Kyoto.

Ms. Tamao Shigemune graduated from Tama Art University, in the Department of Textile Design.

She learned about textile design by apprehending various dyeing techniques such as yuzen dyeing, katazome, and screen printing.

While attending university, she gained an interest in antique kimono and started making her own painting-like kimono and obi designs.

In recent years, she has expanded her range of activities such as art direction, kimono styling, prop styling. She has participated in overseas fashion shows, workshops, and filming.

Washing instructions: Obi cannot be washed. We do not recommend wearing silk obi in the rain as the fabric could be stained.
